This month we are excited to feature Phil Migliarese as expert of the month. Phil is a 4th degree Relson Gracie blackbelt. He’s been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over 20 years. He’s also the creator of Yoga for Fighters, Jiu-Jitsu Share, Jiu-Jitsu Matrix, and he runs Balance Studio in Philadelphia with his brother Ricardo.
In 1993 Phil was in a car accident that left him in a coma and then immobile for 6 months. He wasn’t expected to walk or train again, but he managed to make it to UFC 1 in support of his friend Royce Gracie in just 11 months. By UFC 2 Phil was back on the mat as a training partner with Royce.
Phil spent most of the 1990s at the Gracie Academy training under Helio Gracie and also training under Relson in Hawaii. He was the youngest person ever to receive his black belt under Relson in 2003.
