This week Gregor Gracie shows us a nice choke from the back and what to do if your opponent defends by blocking his neck.
We always hear about the things that we shouldn’t be eating so it’s nice when you find a food that tastes good, and is good for you. The sweet potato truly is a super food. They are almost always available, are easy to prepare, inexpensive, highly nutritious, and they taste fantastic.
Pete gets a chance to roll with Gregor Gracie on our recent trip to the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City.
This week Gregor Gracie shows us how he likes to flatten out an opponent when he has the back but can't get a good choke because the opponent is defending his neck with both hands. The movement follows up on last weeks work on an opponent who is using turtle guard to defend and making it difficult to get hooks in.
It seems like everybody's running a contest these days. We like to use Facebook to connect with our BJJ friends and with our BJJ Weekly readers. We also talk with other other BJJ bloggers and some of the equipment companies that make gear for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Those connections and relationships make Facebook the perfect place to launch a contest for free gear. I mean who doesn't want a chance to win some cool BJJ stuff?
This week Gregor Gracie shows a nice armbar technique when you can only get one hook in trying to take your opponent's back.
Aches and pains are way of life when you train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but sometimes it’s tough to know exactly what causes them. A while back I started feeling pain across my shoulder and in my tricep region. For about two weeks it felt like I had a constant cramp in my arm. However, when you felt the tricep you could tell that it wasn’t cramped. It's a really frustrating type of pain because I felt like there is nothing I could do about it.
Carlos Gracie Jr. 5th degree black belt, Ailson Jucao Brites, shows bjj weekly a nice armlock to omoplata. This is a great brazilian jiu-jitsu technique to use when you are attempting a triangle choke but your opponent does not allow you to lock it up by posturing up.
A BRAND FOR EVERY BODY
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi sizing is an imprecise science to say the least. Not only do you have to squeeze into a very narrowly designed range of sizes (A1 through A5), You also have to deal with inconsistent sizes from manufacturer to manufacturer, and even within the same run from the same manufacturer. Throw in shrinkage and buying a gi online can be a real gamble.
Ever sit around after Jiu-Jitsu class and just bs with your training partners about all things BJJ? Well, so do we. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it gets heated, and sometimes is just plain ridiculous, but it's always a lot of fun. So we thought hey... why not put some of this stuff on camera? We went into the studio with no scripts and not sure where things would lead and came out with the Half Round Throw Down. (The name refers to our half round studio set) Let us know what you think, and if you have ideas for things we should cover in future episodes let us know.
