In this BJJ Power Play Pete shares a quick tip on how to defeat a cross collar grip when you are in your opponent's guard. If your opponent is able to secure the second grip the submission is likely so you really don't want to spend a lot of time doing anything else until you can free the grip from your lapel. This simple head weave motion works most of the time.
When we film techniques with our experts, sometimes we end up with some extra footage. A lot of times it's stuff that doesn't quite fit with the flow of the techniques we are showing for the month.
About 25 years ago I was stationed at the Cherry Point MCAS, on the coast of North Carolina. A few of us used to go down to the beach in Morehead City on a pretty regular basis, and it was there that I first got hooked on the beach culture lifestyle.

This week we are pleased to welcome Luigi Mondelli to BJJ Weekly as Expert of the Month! Luigi is 3rd degree black belt and is the head instructor for Best Way BJJ and American Top Team in Conneticut.
While visiting the Center for Martial Arts in Bridgeport Connecticut, Pete gets a chance to roll with 5x Pan American Champion and 2x World Champion, Luigi Mondelli. Luigi is a 3rd degree black belt and instructor for Bestway BJJ and American Top Team in Connecticut. Luigi is another big guy, but as you can see in the video he is super smooth and technical. Thanks so much to Luigi for allowing us to get this great episode of Rolling Reflections. You can get more information about Luigi and Bestway here.
A Stalled Single Leg Takedown Attempt Turned into Taking the Back by Rolles
In this segment Rolles Gracie shows us a really nice variation from last week's single leg takedown counter. Last week we saw how you can transition from a stalled single leg takedown into a nice Kimura finish. This week Rolles shows us another variation for when your opponent wants to spin and try and roll up into side control, which is a common reaction. Rolles uses the momentum from his opponents roll to transition into a back mount.
In this episode of BJJ Power Play, Jason Scully shares a great drill he calls "Sticky Hands". The drill is designed to help you keep your opponent from breaking your posture by grabbing your head or high on your collar when you are in their guard. Practicing this drill will make your hands automatically go where they should to help keep your opponent flat on his back where you want him!
I received the new Storm Typhoon kimono in the mail a couple months back. Of course I was excited because one of my all time favorite bjj players (Andre Galvao) is sponsored and always wears this specific kimono, the TYPHOON. I have rolled in this gi over 20 times and really put it through its paces on the mat
In part 1 of this article I discussed the goals of strength and conditioning for Jiu-Jitsu, and how it was vitally important to match the needs of any sport to its programming. In this article, I’d like to give you some practical applications of these concepts with example exercises that will develop the attributes required for effective skill learning. The exercises detailed here are by no means extensive but they will give you a great, albeit somewhat alternative, way to approach your strength and conditioning.
